Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
