This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
