The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
