The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
