"We have triumphed where maybe the odds were against us, through the correct decision as a group," he explained. "The partnership with my team on the pit wall and the entire crew... we are really well integrated."

• The championship leader can secure his first-ever world title if he finishes ahead of both his two rivals or achieves a podium finish.
