Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
