Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the American officials has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
