Followers Call for Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a barrier and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed includes videos of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which focuses on the surprising friendship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, securing two for best costume and production design.
