Democrats Denounce Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Capital Punishment

Democratic officials expressed outrage after Donald Trump accused a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and stated they should be detained and punished "with execution" following their release of a disputed video.

The Message That Sparked the Controversy

The video footage, released on Tuesday, features six Democratic congress members who previously served in armed forces or security positions.

"As we did, you all took an vow to safeguard and defend this national charter," the officials stated in the brief video. "Currently, the threats to our democratic foundation don't only come from abroad, but from right here at home. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline illegal orders, you can reject illegal orders, you must decline improper directives. No one has to execute directives that contravene the legal system or our national charter."

Trump's Furious Reply

The recorded statement reportedly prompt a heated reply from the ex-president.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he wrote: "This is really concerning, and Risky to our Country. Their comments cannot be permitted to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials React

Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership issued a combined declaration condemning the comments.

"Political violence has no role in the United States," they stated. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our country with tremendous loyalty and honor. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's offensive and risky threats of violence against congressional representatives, and appeal to GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in contact with protective services "to guarantee the security of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these extreme digital publications and recant his dangerous discourse before he causes harm," the declaration stated.

Lawmakers' Firm Reaction

The representatives who participated in the video also published a response.

"We are veterans and security experts who value this United States and took an oath to safeguard and uphold the founding document of the United States," they declared. "This commitment is permanent, and we plan to keep it. No warning, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that sacred duty."

"The significant point is that the president considers it subject to penalty by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they stated. "Military personnel should know that we have their support as they carry out their pledge to the national charter and obligation to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They continued: "All citizens must unite and denounce the former president's requests for our death and political violence. This is a moment for moral clarity."

Additional Political Reactions

The Opposition leader also condemned Trump's remarks and posted on digital platforms: "We must be absolutely clear: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the execution of elected officials."

He continued: "This represents an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, the entire nation – regardless of party – should censure this immediately and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", describing the video as "extremely improper", adding: "It is very risky, you have important representatives of the legislature instructing military personnel to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in US history."

The Conservative representative also allegedly informed the press that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the violation of sedition" but that "lawyers have to analyze the terminology and determine all that."

White House Statement

During a White House press conference on later that day, when inquired by a media member, "Is the president want to put to death elected officials?", the White House press secretary responded: "No."

"We should understand about what the president is responding to," the representative stated. "You have active officials of the federal government who conspired to arrange a video message to personnel of the national defense, to serving soldiers encouraging them to disobey the commander in chief's proper directives."

She stated: "The sanctity of our armed forces relies on the hierarchy, and if that system is compromised, it can result in fatalities, it can result in chaos, and that is exactly what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally promoting."
