One extended journey circling the Australian Coast is being halted following the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the party for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the personnel discovered the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation found her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, together with police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and staff on the ship were notified that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also issued an latest announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from getting on the vessel.
