Catherine's Yearly Christmas Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including award-winning actors.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
