Mikel Arteta remains confident that his side can persist in handling with injury setbacks following confirming that attacker Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been out for months following knee surgery. Hoped to be available sooner, Arteta explained the player hit a snag when advancing his recovery and could not progress “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is considerably steadier and has more options,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This development creates a dilemma for the midweek match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also in contention following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Additional concerns surround centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably keep their places in the backline for the league leaders.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Addressing the complication highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have unlocked that.”

He shared his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I admire greatly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his mentality, his attitude. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”
