A Number of Injured as Rough Air Impacts Delta Plane Landing at Sydney
Several people were hurt after a Delta flight from LA to Sydney, Australia encountered significant turbulence Friday morning.
The flight, numbered 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson informed. A number of the onboard staff sustained injuries.
Emergency medical services reported they evaluated five individuals, and transported a trio to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that such as back pain and migraines. Those affected spanned from their 30s up to the 70s.
This marks the newest example of commercial jets being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with experts pointing out that shifting climate patterns is a significant contributor.
On board were 245 people and 15 crew members on the aircraft, the official said, adding that the plane touched down "safely" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday.
Emergency responders indicated they got a call just a mere three minutes prior to the plane arrived, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.
